Ice Box Cookies

1 ½ cups butter

1 cup sugar

1 cup brown sugar

3 eggs

5 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup walnuts, minced

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in one egg at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Mix in flour salt and baking soda. Add walnuts and mix well. Divide into 2 or 3 pieces and roll each log in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Chill several hours or overnight. Slice logs about 1/4" thick and bake at 350° for 12 minutes, or until delicately browned. Makes 8–10 dozen cookies.
